Christmas 2009

share the gift web1.jpgFirst Baptist Church of Bryan, KBTX, and area churches wish to meet a need in the community to provide food over the Christmas holiday to children in low-income families. Over 11,000 children in BISD and CSISD are on free or reduced-lunch programs; some receiving their only meal of the day at school. During school holidays, many children must go without proper meals at all. The money raised will directly go to provide groceries for these families in need. It has been estimated that 1,500 families from Bryan-College Station will receive groceries from this food drive.

We ask that monetary donations, not food donations, be given. The reason for this is such: The food will be purchased in bulk from the Brazos Food Bank. If the food were purchased from a local grocery store, the cost for each family's food would be appoximately $26. By purchasing in bulk from the Brazos Food Bank, the cost is only $10 per family. Thus, we are able to provide food to more families. Each family will receive two bags of groceries (approximately 34lbs.) that contain food items like canned goods, noodles, juice, milk and peanut butter.

If you would like to provide a monetary donation, please click on the "Donate" button at the bottom of the screen. It will direct you to PayPal, where you can easily and safely make a donation online. You may also turn in donations at FBC Bryan or any of the partnering area churches* for "Share the Gift."

FBC Bryan is in need of volunteers for the food drive. Volunteers of all ages are needed to:

  • Unload delivery trucks and "double-bag" grocery bags at First Baptist Church of Bryan, Sunday afternoon, December 6th
  • Sack groceries Monday-Thursday, December 7th-10th. There will be two-hour shifts starting at 11am and ending at 9pm (11am-1pm, 1-3pm, 3-5pm, 5-7pm, 7-9pm.) Groups or churches can sign up for shifts and individuals can just show up for a shift.
  • Deliver groceries to schools and agencies Monday-Wednesday, December 14th-16th
